    Cold comfort

We trained hard, but just as we were beginning to form up into teams, we would be reorganised. I was to learn later in life that we tend to meet any new situation by reorganising, and a wonderful method it can be for creating the illusion of progress while creating inefficiency and demoralisation.

I saw this and thought it might bring tears of recognition (or frustration) to any of you in big organisations at the moment (for some reason the NHS sprang to mind). I don’t know if it’s any consolation that this state of affairs  seems to have been going on for a very long time.

Plus ça change … and all that.
