ChangeCamp – Saturday October 30th, 2010

ChangeCamp is a day long workshop of self development workshops taking place in Newcastle on Saturday October 30th.

The day consists of more than a dozen presentations on a range of self help / self development / therapeutic approaches.

This year’s Autumn ChangeCamp features an eclectic mix of more than a dozen different self-help workshops to choose from.

These workshops are open to the general public and members of the helping professions.

How To Do Hypnosis – Nigel Hetherington, Therapist & Trainer

Hypnosis is a very interesting and powerful way to help people out of difficult and awkward situations. It is also a way to see and orientate towards better futures more clearly.

Introduction to Solution-focused Therapy – John Wheeler, Therapist & Trainer

Solution-focused Brief Therapy takes a particular interest in what’s working in people’s lives, as opposed to what isn’t. The workshop will provide a taster of the approach, some tools that can taken away and opportunities for discussion on applications of the approach..

Quick Start EFT – Andy Hunt, Therapist & Trainer

A brief introduction to Emotional Freedom Techniques or EFT. This is a powerful, yet simple, way of relieving a great of unhappiness by neutralising negative emotions, memories and beliefs. This session will give you a brief introduction to EFT and how to use it.

Join in even if you do not feel like laughing for first of all, laughter comes from the body, then the mind takes over and your laughter soon becomes real and infectious.

It is a great way to end Change Camp but there is also a serious side to the fun we have. The more we laugh, the more we release endorphins in our body – our “feel good” hormones. Laughter boosts the immune system. We get an oxygen boost leaving us bursting with energy as we leave Change Camp.

Stuck? Write A Letter From The Future!

LettersYears ago, the great hypnotherapist Milton H Erickson had a very difficult client. He could not seem to find a way to help this client who resisted all his efforts to help.

Realising that he had run out of ideas he decided to ‘cheat’.

He hypnotised the man putting him in a deep trance and invited him to go to some time in the future, a time when the problem had been solved and everything was as the man had wanted.

When the man was imagining this time when he no longer had the problem Erickson asked him what he, Erickson, had done to make this change possible. The man told him what Erikson had done in that imagined past that had made all the difference.

Erikson made notes about what ‘he’ had done. Then he brought the man ‘back in time’ instructing him to forget about their discussion.

He brought the man out of trance, then started the interventions that he had been told would work. The therapy went well and the patient overcame his problem.

Erickson later called this hypnotic approach, ‘Pseudo-orientation in Time’.

Fortunately we don’t need to be hypnotherapists or hypnotised ourselves to take advantage of this phenomenon. A Letter From The Future is a simple method that you can use to help you get internal guidance on how to get out of problem situations or to get to where you are wanting to go.

How to write a letter from the future

  • Imagine you are five years in the future. Things have gone well and you are where you want to be.
  • Write a letter from your future self to your current self
  • In the letter describe where you are, what you are doing, what you have gone through to get there, and so on.
  • Tell yourself the crucial things you realised or did to get there.
  • Give yourself some sage and compassionate advice from the future

That’s all there is to it. It might look ridiculously simple, but it can be powerfully helpful. Try it out and find out what your happy future self has to tell you.

EFT Café on October 13th – Identity Relief From Procrastination

Stop SignsHave you ever found yourself stuck on a project, something you would like to do but can’t quite manage to get going, saying to yourself:

  • I just can’t get started
  • I stop myself
  • I can’t allow myself to go forward
  • I am lazy
  • I …

These are identity beliefs, strong ideas about who we are as a person and how we act in the world. They are very powerful ideas about ourselves they can be liberating or limiting.

In this month’s EFT Café there is a double bill – learning how to use the Identity Relief process and then finding and using it on our blocks to success commonly know as procrastination or self sabotage.

In the first part of the evening event you will learn how to use the Identity relief process a new way of tapping to simply dissolve the powerful identity beliefs that hold us in place

The EFT Café will be at St Oswald’s Hospice Teaching Centre, Gosforth, Newcastle upon Tyne on October 13th between 7pm and 9pm.

On Saturday December 4th I am running an AAMET Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) Level 1 training for just £45

EFT is a simple, yet very effective, healing process that uses your body’s built in stress relief system.

By tapping with the fingertips on the ends of acupuncture meridians you can reduce, or eliminate, all types of negative emotions including fears, anger, phobias, grief, traumatic memories, stress and anxiety.

EFT can also relieve many physical conditions that may have an emotional component, such as headaches, muscle stiffness, pain, food cravings, smoking, itching and nail biting.
